Both the Ciro Ballerina and the Trifari Ballerina are 70 mm ( 2 3/4 inches) in height
Perhaps the major difference between these two pieces is the way they lie when worn. The Ciro piece is very unstable because of the distance between the back of the brooch and its pin, the whole brooch tips from side to side. The Trifari piece is much more stable, the pin stem is a lot closer to the back of the brooch and it lies very snugly on a garment, with no movement. Although it can not be shown in pictures the Trifari brooch weight is better balanced over all, the way the skirt keeps close to the legs and slight differences in the thickness of limbs changes the centre of gravity quite considerably.

Ciro Trifari
In the photo gallery below I have tried to show as many views as possible so that the subtle variations as well as the great similarities as as clear as possible.
If you click on the thumbnails you will be taken to larger images which will also contain any comments I think worth while.
WARNING. I have a degree in 3D Design, specialising in Silver, so I have worked with moulds and studied Art and Design with a view to determining whether pieces were produced by a certain person, under the supervision of a certain person, or simply in the style of a certain person. The things which I find fascinating may appear boring or irrelevant to normal people :-) I am in no doubt whatsoever that the moulds from which these pieces were taken have been produced by two different people. This does not mean that they couldn’t have been produced by two different pattern makers working for Trifari, but when you also take into account the standard of finish and the findings used then it seems very unlikely that they were produced by Trifari and given the Ciro stamp.
